Check out www.freessl.com for free certificates for free SSL certificates.
Inmy experience they work all right with IE 5.01 and 5.5 but are not
recognizedby Opera 5.11.

Also check out www.geotrust.com for cheaper than Verisign SSL certificates.
I have not had tie jet to try one of these but will in the next few weeks.
These certificates should work be recognized by many more browsers
according to their web site.
