Re: [cobalt-developers] Viri

Hey dude.

I've looked _extensively_ into this on another project I'm working on.

I wish there was someway of having a transparent gateway for
incoming/outgoing email but i havent actually found any. (I _really_ want
to be able to do this for a router/small network type setup. anybody got
any ideas?)

The solution on a *nix I've found is to install a mta (mail transport
agent) of some kind, i.e. sendmail, and use a filter (AmAvIs is a freware
one.. it uses virus definition files from popular products usually found
on Windoze desktop machines).

On the cobalt, you might need to find out what mta the RaQ4 uses (I havent
ever looked into it - Usually if I'm going to do something "non standard"
[defined by what the cobalt's do out the box] then I'll use a BSD box) and
then search for some kind of mail filter for it.

Replacing the mail software imo is not a good idea because it'd kind of
make the interface nonfunctional ;-) Heh, personal experience, the hard
way.

I _think_ it uses sendmail. I aint got a cobalt here to look at though
atm, so I couldnt't tell you :/ If this is the case it might be as simple
as just installing amavis or another proggy.

www.freshmeat.net or www.sourceforge.net might be your friend though.

Hope this helps...

Ryan

| Can anyone suggest a decent [preferably at no cost] e-mail scanner and
viri
| scanner that will work on this crazy Raq4 box? The boss wants to check
| incoming, and to a lesser extent outgoing, e-mail for attached viri and
| nasties like that.
