a while ago i changed named so that it would run -u named -g named, at the
time i noticed an error "couldn't create pid file '/var/run/named.pid'" in
my logs.
some suggestions were made, and i followed them, and at the time
everything seemed to be working.
but i am faced with the same problem again.
having just entered a new domain into dns, the error "couldn't create pid
file '/var/run/named.pid'" has turned up in my logs once again.
the file /var/run/named.pid is:
-rw-r--r-- 1 named named 6 Jun 18 09:42 named.pid
so that's ok, but the director /var/run is:
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 1024 Jul 15 04:05 run
considering many programs use /var/run, i can't really chown it named.named.
can anyone suggest a way to solve this problem?
thanks,
chris paul
