are you putting in sales@xxxxxxxxxx or just the words sales in the alias
box.
be sure you are not adding the domain name on.

First, when you add an alias on a domain (virtual site) it's just "sales"
- not "sales@virtualsite".
If in fact you did that, and it didn't work, that happend to me once.
Going to the site settings and just hitting "save changes" has solved the
problem, to my surprise...
