I think a better way (for automation) is to write a script and throw it in
cron so that every day it processes the log file. In other words, you would
write a script to parse the log file containing the ftp & telnet
successful/failed log in, and then you can write & append to a file to keep
for your records. You can parse the file and extract information by the date
since that file has:

April 6

OR

June 1

...

So if today is June 1, then the script would parse lines containing June 1,
and so on.

Hi,

You can telnet in to the system and type 'last admin' to see who logged
on directly to the system with telnet as 'admin'. This will not show the
people who did a su - to the root-user.
The commandline history of the admin user can be found in his
.bash_history or type 'history|more'
