One easy way, if you're running windows is to add the following to your
\windows\hosts file
IPNUMBER_USED_ON_YOUR_SERVER www.the_new_site.com
Now, you can view the site at the url
http://www.the_new_site.com (which is on your server)
You can also view the site that hasn't moved to your server by
viewing
http://the_new_site.com (which isn't on your server)
An added benefit is that if your customer uses Front Page, by
adding the line above to their \windows\hosts, they will be able to
publish using Front Page.
The suggestion made to change the httpd.conf works also, but some
cgi-scripts "appear" to be broken until the DNS propogates.
