I would suggest that you obtain the lastest stable release from
http://www.perl.com/pub/language/info/software.html
read the INSTALL file - important - and use the configure script to create a
new version or perl in a separate directory. DO NOT upgrade your existing
perl - that is likely to break the GUI.

I also tacked on my existing perl libraries onto the list (you can specify
that in the configure script) of perl libraries so that it would pick up any
previously added perl modules - eg CRYPT and Blowfish. If you go through the
process carefully it is reasonablt straightforward and if you use a sep
directory (I used /usr/perl56/) then you won't hurt anything.

After you have created the parallel perl yo will access it by changing the
shebang (is that the right word ?) at the top of the perl script to point to
your new libraries

cheers
