It is as easy as installing the POP before SMTP pkg, EXCEPT that if
you've already installed all your upgrades you will downgrade qpopper on
installation. The POP before SMTP is really nothing more that a perl
script (which if installed before the upgrades are installed becomes
broken due to a change in qpopper's logging format), and and entry in
cron.

It has been discussed here before, but I can send you the details for a
proper installation.
