Many of you have asked me questions about which RPM I used, did I recompile
Apache/PHP etc.
I used, as most people do rightly or wrongly, the latest full set of MySQL
RPM's, and I did not recompile PHP as I am somewhat dubious to do so on
these new RaQ4 servers. I find integrated/pre-installed software always
causes 'problems'.
I have since got connections working through the web, and I thank all who
gave me tips and advice.
The problem seems to be that I can not connect using the host "localhost" in
the 'mysql_connect' function, instead I have to use the hardcoded primary
base DNS of my server - "dns0.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" as the host. I did ofcourse
check that all my user info was correct in the USER table, and I can use
'localhost' to connect and query in a shell, just not through PHP.
If anyone knows a good reason for this then, once again your assistance
would be gratefully received.
Cheers
Bobby Chopra
