Hey, the below works fine, telnet.exe that comes with windows does work,
just not very well, I would recomend you look into getting a nice telnet
client, you can find several off of tucows.com or download.com. I personaly
use Token 2, its a little buggy at times when editing but it has a very
very large buffer so you can scroll back and see what you've done.
As for setting up KDE or Gnome, thats impossible, well, never say that
becuase the qube does HAVE a pci slot and a serial connection.... can we say
monitor and serial keyboard? ;) But as far as administrating the Qube (or a
RaQ for that matter) you should be doing this from an office or home, or
somewhere far away from the device, the point of the Cobalt line of products
is that you don't HAVE to be near the device, which in an industry
application is in a datacenter with hundreds of systems and a few monitors
hooked up on massive KVM switches....
Anyways, forget about KDE or Gnome, I would recomend a wonderfull little
program called Webmin, which can be found at www.webmin.com which is sort of
an expansion past the cobalt sauce (web baised administration). You have to
get the binary install but its great to manage files in a visual format and
too tons of stuff without telnet. I will caution you though, things like
users, e-mails, domains, change all that stuff via the normal cobalt
interphase, last thing you wanna do is mess something up in their postgres
database... which is password locked at the factory btw, you can't use it
for other things or even look at it.
Usualy, I compose my scripts on a windows machine, Editpad (NOT NOTEPAD ;)
and the ftp the files to my home dir on the qube3 I'm testing, then cp the
files where I need them from there in telnet, run them, and boom, there you
go.

I am new to qube as well.
This is all done using telnet.
1) So first, enable telnet in your Qube using the Admin tools (web pages).
2) I use WinME, so I open a dos box and run telnet (telnet.exe).
3) Login to your Qube as admin, use your admin password.
4) Then type "su -" and then enter the admin password again.
when you are done, type "logout" to return to admin.
Hope this works for you as well...
If anyone knows a better way, please let me know.
Anyone know how to setup a KDE or GNOME front end for the Qube3?
Hey COBALT, how about including instructions for X and VNC?
I sure don't like using klunky text editors in telnet...
