RE: [cobalt-developers] Configure PHP to work with newly added MySQL

I had this same problem. The original web server is not configured for MySQL. I resolved it by going into /usr/sbin and copying httpd to ahttpd. This gives you two separate web servers.

Then I downloaded and built one with the support I needed for my site. It became /usr/sbin/httpd. It's working fine, but I lost the rewrite rules for the admin site. So I can't use http://cobalt.box/admin... but I can still use http://cobalt.box:444/. Which is fine as far as I'm concerned.

You will also want to install DBI for Perl and the MySql Perl modules. This will allow you to use the set_permission script that's already installed in /usr/bin.

Oh, and don't expect the MySQL server to get started automatically.

Once it's all configured it runs very nicely. No thanks to Cobalt.

If you think that maybe it's a good idea to compile PHP with MySQL support as a load module for the httpd that ships with the Cobalt, I wish you luck. I lost a couple of days trying to make this work.

Mike raises an interesting question. Now that the Qube GUI depends on php,
incorrect updates/ re-installs of php could have an impact on the
operability of the GUI. I found that MySQL was installed on my Qube3,
activated it, and confirm that even though php was configured as follows on
the Qube3:

'./configure' '--prefix=/usr' '--with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs' '--with-gd'
'--with-gettext' '--enable-safe-mode' '--with-config-file-path=/etc/httpd'
'--with-exec-dir=/usr/bin' '--with-zlib' '--enable-magic-quotes'
'--with-regex=system' '--with-ttf=/usr/lib/libttf.so' '--enable-track-vars'
'--enable-xml' '--disable-debug' '--with-interbase=shared'
'--with-mysql=shared' '--with-pgsql=shared' '--with-imap'

and with mysql running, mysql commands return errors such as:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_connect()

Has anyone configured the Qube3 to actually USE mysql via php? Would Cobalt
care to describe the safe way to do this since php and mysql are bulleted
features of the product?

Thanks in advance.
