Hi...this was posted to the Cobalt-Users list....and I believe it may also
be appropriate for this forum.

Subject: Solving Cobalt Problems
I believe there is light at the end of the tunnel in terms of solving
problems with broken, missing and "we'd like to see" features on Cobalt
Servers.
In the interest of problem solving, I carboned various folks at Cobalt
with some of my email concerning problems and the rectification thereof.
In an very encouraging email from a Sun/Cobalt employee in a position to
do something about the problems, I was asked if I could supply what I've
been stressing here.....
A list of
1. known problems(features/operations) that are broken
2. items than need clarification
3. wish list of items not in either of the above areas
that we'd like to see.
The Sun person cited the Knowledge Base not having RAQ4 specific
information as an example of items that could and would be rectified.
While I'm not at liberty to mention the name and/or email of the person,
I can say that while there were no "cast in concrete" promises made, the
writer indicated that one way to evaluate whether or not the concept was
working would be to judge by actions, not words.
I'm taking this as a two-edged sword....if Cobalt doesn't take action
on our requests, we can make one kind of judgement. On the other hand, if
we can't produce a list of the above, then we are creating a lot of hot
air.
I am not the most technical person on the list, but I'm reasonably
logical, somewhat skilled at trouble-shooting methodology and not half-bad
at documentation.
So, I urge everyone who can make a contribution to "the list" to do so. I
will compile the list, forward it to the person at cobalt and, with
comments from folks here, monitor what is any progress is being made.
Being sarcastic and cynical, I will made every effort to NOT describe
problems with adjectives such as dumb, etc...and would hope others follow
in kind.
There has been a lot of "Cobalt has, Cobalt hasn't, Cobalt should"
threads...now it's time for us to submit a list and see if we can get
results.
It's your dance card.
Thom
