If anyone cares, it seems that the cobalt patch
Security: BIND Update 1.0.1
Has got my DNS server all screwed up. I am still not 100% clear on how its is supposed to be
configured, but when I run
nslookup
I get
*** Can't find server name for address 209.204.157.114: Non-existent host/domain
*** Default servers are not available
This is definitely related to the cobalt patch, since to the day, all software and modifications
made, had absolutely nothing to do with the name server, ftp, email, or telnet. The things I have
modified, still work. Go figure.
Anyway it was a valiant effort on Cobalt behalf since the RaQ4's shipped with Bind 4x and the
current version is 8.2.3. The only safe version prior to 8x is 4.9.8 according to the ISC, which
the RaQ's did not have.
So on to repair my DNS server.
The funny thing is, my web server still works fine. I would imagine they would be among the first
to go, with a DNS problem????
William
