Re: [cobalt-developers] Cannot install the MIPS Kernel Update 1.0 on my RaQ2

Thanks Harald. I managed to restore the OS and install the kernel-update as you described. That worked just fine.

Did you have any problem patching from there? That is, patch up to the latest without breaking the JServ?

Hi there,
well same experience for us - the only way to get this up correctly was
to start from plain Cobalt OS 4.0 (1999-original-version of raq2), then
to patch MIPS-kernel-update, tools and then the rest of available .pkg updates.

Basically cobalt-support told us that the mips-kernel-update is outdated
automatically as it's included in the OS-update, though afaik the kernel-tools
aren't and (bad luck) those tools depend on the mips-kernel-update which
can't be installed otherwise, got no real solution on this one, except to
either make it from scratch or to break warranty (well, who cares? ;-)) and
install manually, but be warned we've never tested the later option, always
do a clean setup for new raq's, make a procedure-handbook for sysops internally
is probably a good option.
