additional suggestions you can make.

Alas, the Cobalt server itself generates the
"friendly HTTP error message";  IE is not
hiding anything.  Thanks anyway for the suggestion.
I made the change in the browser.

Perhaps the message in the error log offers a hint:

        handler "cgi-wrapper" not found for: /home/sites/.../nph-countdown.cgi

(full pathname deleted).  All my other CGI scripts
work ok;  what's going wrong with this one?

I know that cgi-wrapper has been discussed at length
in this list group;  apologies if I'm re-asking something
obvious.
