What happens when you try to restart Postgres manually?
Check the /etc/rc.d/init.d/postgresql init script.
It's possible that something is misconfigured there.
I seem to remember having a similiar problem with a Raq3
and a path was misconfigured in the init script.
And yes Postgres is essential for the Cobalt gui to work.

Yes, I have been poking around casually in the configurations and can vouch
that Postgress dies. Now is it the syptom or the cause ?
