RE: [cobalt-developers] Samba Directory Mapping?

Malcom,
I was thinking the same thing, your right, a windows machine can't map
directories below the share point, I would assume becuase it is a direct
security hole, if you can bypass the parent directory and access files
directly then the point of access to a share is invalid. I've gone through
and solved the problem, although I have modified the meathod a little for
the Qube Series:

First create groups for every shared directory you need to map, using
whatever naming structure you need to gt it all in,add the users that you
want to have access to through the Qube's admin interphase. After this is
done, edit the smb.conf file, changing the paths of every shared folder to
the directory you need it to instead of the defualt, /home/groups/groupname
dir. From this there isn't a need to add new users, etc, and Its now
working fine.

Thanks,
Kevin Thomson

Have you tried this on a real Windows server?

I was under the impression that you could only map to actual share points
... not directories within share points.

If you really needed to map a particular subdirectory, then add a section to
smb.conf to make that subdirectory a share point.

Cheers, Malcolm
