I was able to do what Barry suggested, but after I installed it my imp (web based imap) program was unable to send mail.  The nice thing is that it is easy to reverse the install if you backed up your files.

If anyone has any experience with this issue, I think youhave an audience.

Also it appears that sendmail >= 8.10 coupled with cyrus-sasl will allow spam protection without the hassles of IP relaying.  If I could only get it to work without taking out my imp, I could report more thoroughly.
