Have tried

While you can use edquota to change quotas, (see man edquota) I don't
recommend it; the next time you change anything to do with the site in
the gui, it'll go back to what's listed in the gui.

Subject: [cobalt-developers] Telnet Timeout Settings
We're having problems with Telnet and FTP - they disconnect very quickly
after just a short period of inactivity (about 30 seconds). We understand
that this is for security reasons, but at the moment, we're newbies battling
with upgrades etc, so we can install Oracle on our new RaQ3i, so we need
more time!
Can anyone point us to where such a setting might be? (please be explicit,
we really are total newbies!)

Not sure what you mean, Jeff.
Do you mean you want to set up secondary DNS on the same machine already
running primary, or on another machine?
If you want to use the same machine for both primary and secondary (not
recommended) you don't have to do anything on the machine, but you do
have to register the secondary server with your domain registrar, at
another IP#, and there must be a site on your RaQ hosted at that IP#.

What do you mean by not correct? Can you give us references?
On my Slackware and RedHat systems I, as Cobalt does, do my user
aliasing in one step in the virtusertable. Because Cobalt allows you to
get email either at host.domain.com or at domain.com, they receive all
mail at .host.domain.com, and if you enable mail for domain.com, they
just add a line to virtusertable enabling deliver of mail addressed to
domain.com to be delivered at host.domain.com.
Sounds pretty reasonable to me, to give you the flexibility they do,
with the least complexity.
> I will now analyze the difference in the two system setups and see if I
can

Try the simple stuff first; it may help. If you know what needs to be
in virtusertable, then you can always put it in below the line near the
bottom. I've got lots of custom work in my virtusertable. If you do
that, be sure to hash it when you're done:
# makemap hash virtusertable <virtusertable
> That I can do easy but how to fix the GUI scripts I have no idea thats a
> tangled nest of loops. If I find the config fix and some one helps me
> locate where things are done in the GUI stuff, together the fix is easy.
Okay, let us know what in virtusertable doesn't work, and what you want
instead, and we'll see what we can recommend.

Exactly what does the MX record point to? Can you attach to an email a
copy of your /etc/named/pri.domain file for the domain?

First question, is the domain name a CNAME record or an A record? MX
records should point to A records, and not CNAME records.
Second, a point... According to sendmail.org, the host needs to be
configured to accept mail for the domain. On the RaQ3 you do that this
way:
In your admin console, you go to Control Panel, the Sendmail Parameters,
then in the Host/Domain Aliases field make sure your fully qualified
domain name exists in the window. If it doesn't, add it and save
changes.

In every copy of sendmail.cf I've got, on lots of systems, the reference
is as follows:
Kvirtuser hash -o /etc/virtusertable
Note that there's no ".db" ending. Doesn't need one.
> I know how to make MX and mail server work seems that the cobalt scripts
> don not.
Presuming so, then you know about this part of sendmail.cf:
Cwlocalhost
# file containing names of hosts for which we receive email
Fw/etc/sendmail.cw
And you know that the sendmail.cw file contains the names of the domains
you receive mail for. The way the RaQs work, that's the fully-qualified
domain name, and I've explained above how to populate it from the gui.
> Is there something in Cobalt GUI terms I have missed.
Perhaps... see my notes above, go through them, make sure you've done
everything right, and then if it's still not working, call Cobalt tech
support or ask someone on the list to look at your system for you.

With only a few sites on the system, this should be easy to trace.
Please answer the questions I've asked in my previous post; it'll help.

Barry,
Many of my clients have hundreds of sites running on a RaQ3 without any
of the problems you've mentioned. My guess is that because you know how
to configure by hand you've changed something and made it incompatible
with the RaQ.
Did you restore the files on the RaQ from the *.master files before you
readded the few sites you're using for testing?

That's not the problem; I've been using the %1 notation for years. The
%1 means "the first field of the address", which is the left side of the
"@" sign. So what these lines do is take user@xxxxxxxxxx and redirect
it to user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx As I've explained (but perhaps not too well)
in a previous email, the RaQs do it this way because by default they
receive email for the user at "host.domain.com" (so you can use
hostnames as subdomain names). I've used the %1 notation for years and
it's never failed me. It IS documented in the sendmail "bat" book from
O'Reilly, but like many subjects in that book, it's not as clear as it
could be.

Sorry, but it's got nothing to do with genericstable.
Genericstable is for outgoing email, NOT for incoming email. It changes
the SENDER's address ("sendmail", 2nd Edition, Page 262).
Virtusertable also uses %1, and it's for incoming email.
"A virtusertable is a database that maps virtual (possibly nonexistent)
domains into new addresses. Essentialy, it gives you a database hook
into the early part of rule set 0." ("sendmail", 2nd Edition, Page 262).
I was wrong in my previus post about "%1" being documented in the
"sendmail" book; it's documented at
"http://www.sendmail.org/virtual-hosting.html":
"In this first example, the address joe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx will be mapped to
the local user jschmoe, jane@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx will be mapped to the remote
user jdoe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, and anything else coming in to
yourdomain.com will also go to jschmoe.
joe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx jschmoe
bogus@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx error:nouser No such user here
list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx yourdomain-list
@yourdomain.com %1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
In this second example, the address joe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx will be mapped to
the local user jschmoe, the address bogus@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx will return the
indicated error, the address list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx will be mapped to the
local user yourdomain-list (which you would use the aliases file to
ultimately resolve) and every other user at yourdomain.com will be
mapped to a remote user of the same name at othercompany.com."
And I do want to put out that the Cobalt gui does it properly for most
of us most of the time.
> thats what the %1@xxxxxxxxxx is doing in the virtusertable file.
Not at all. Genericstable has nothing to do with incoming email.

This works as long as mail addressed to "user@xxxxxxxxxx" is going
directly to "user" but it bypasses any extra aliases and forwards, so
it's pretty simplistic.
> but what is colbalt trying to do with this broken GUI ?

Please don't present your scripts as a fix until and unless you're
willing to address all the functionality Cobalt provides; giving up
aliases and forwards is a pretty high price to pay to fix something
that's really not broken.

Hi Jeff
Thanks for all the input,
Just to explain. This RaQ3 is a standard box no mods just the official
cobalt updates. At some stage during the updates being installed things
have stopped working. I have had this many times before with other part of
GUI being changed etc..
The last one was the display of DNS records in the ARPA domain ie reverse
domain were never listed so you could not edit them. that was a typo in the
scripts.
So
I do every thing correctly as per the cobalt ways. add A records add MX
that uses an A record points back to the box.
If I tick the box accept email for domain in any of the virtual sites
settings. then as you say in /etc/virtusertable you get a line with a
%1@ rewrite
but that causes a loop MX failure.
so I un-tick the box thus the virtusertable has then no %1@ lines. and I
then add an entry in the email settings from control panel which adds a
line in sendmail.cw
and everything work fine.
Also I have noticed that any users added should have an /etc/aliase entry
in the format firstname.lastname: userid
this now does not work. it did before but not since some of the OS Upgrades
were installed.
I have been configuring Linux boxes (not cobalts) for years and never had a
problem.
I have an out of the Factory RaQ3 here with freshly installed OS Updates to
take it up to date that NOW no longer works
It has one user Admin.
If you want access to it you can. it also does not work.

I am trying to install Postgres on my Raq2. I have tried getting the

Subject: [cobalt-developers] Problems Removing Site
Reply-To: cobalt-developers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I'm having trouble removing a site. If I use the Mgmt Console, it says 2 of
the mail boxes are not empty and won't allow me to remove the site. I
deleted it by hand through Telnet so I cannot get back in and add the
mailboxes. I went through the knowledge base and did as they say to
manually remove a site as below:
{From Knowledge Base}
You will need to do the following to manually delete a virtual site:
1. Telnet in to the server as root.
2. Edit the following files to make sure that the site in question is
removed:
/etc/group
/etc/aliases
/etc/proftpd.conf
/etc/htgroup
/etc/passwd
3. Run the following command, and hit control-D shortly afterwards to
regenerate the list of sites:
/usr/admserv/cgi-bin/.cobalt/siteList/siteList.cgi
Your server should be set after this.
{End Knowledge Base}
Still didn't remove it. I then went into the httpd.conf file and removed
the reference to the site I want to remove. It did the trick, BUT, I now
have a site with no name and an IP address of 0 which I cannot do anything
with. In what file am I missing the reference that causes this? Any help
would be appreciated.

Hi, we've got a stock standard Cobalt RaQ4i (preinstalled with PHP &

$host = "202.3.42.65:/home/opt/interbase/examples/employee.gdb";
$username = "SYSDBA";
$password = "masterkey";
$dbh = ibase_connect ($host,$username,$password);
$stmt = 'SELECT * FROM tblname';
$sth = ibase_query ($dbh, $stmt);
while ($row = ibase_fetch_object ($sth)) {
print $row->email . "\n";
}
ibase_close ($dbh);
?>
We always get "Call to undefined function: ibase_connect() in
/home/sites/home/web/Employee.php on line 9" when we load it onto the
server.
so we think PHP is not recognizing ibase_connect etc.
If anyone can fix the above then I'm sure we'll be ok after that.
p.s. This works ok ...
using Telnet
from [root /root]# .... typed .....
/home/opt/interbase/bin/isql /home/opt/interbase/examples/employee.gdb -USER
"SYSDBA" -PAS "masterkey"
returns ...
SQL>
Then this works OK ...
SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEE;
records displayed
Regards
Peter
