This is a ignorant question. Everyone writes linux code toward
i386 platform.
Except those that use PowerPC, Alpha, Mips (big-endian) or Mips
(little-endian) or some other processor. :-)
But when I want to try to compile it on my Qube
(2700WG), I find that it is for the wrong platform. Like i386 and
alpha, what is the platform for the Qube? MIPS? How do I obtain code for
MIPS? Often source code isn't good enough.
The Qube 2700WG, Qube 2, RaQ and RaQ 2 product families use a
processor from Quantum Effects Devices (QED) that implements the
Mips-little endian architecture. This architecture is very popular in
the embedded device community, including Sony Playstations, Nintendo
64, and many other devices.
For code development purposes, the Qube is ".mipsel" (mips
endian-little) but for historical reasons the correct extension to
use on the Qube is ".mips"
There are some rpms for mips at
ftp://ftp.cobaltnet.com/pub/developer/ or
ftp://ftp.cobaltnet.com/pub/experimental/ . Additionally, The
Cleveland Linux User Group http://cleveland.lug.net/ has in the past
had a collection of .mips rpms. There are also some at
http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/ .
Cheers,
/Gordon
