I'm sure he knows that running both PRI and SEC DNS on one server is not a
good idea. However, if you're a small company just starting up and funds
are tight, you make due with what you have. If you only have one server,
secondary DNS service doesn't really do you any good. This isn't a Windows
box, so there's no reason for the DNS server to just stop responding (unless
you tinker with it manually and you don't know what you're doing). Not to
mention if your one and only server goes down for any reason, all your
services go down with it rendering any additional DNS services useless.
Please don't turn this into a DNS flame fest. I am sympathizing with Vijay
because we started out the same way. Not everyone has the pleasure of
starting with large venture funds. Also, the "Both DNS services on one
server" deal has been beaten to death.
Vijay, take a look at the following URLs. It's Interliant's and DN/Verio's
