Hello:
You will need to set up .htaccess in the following manner:
AuthUserFile
/home/sites/site#/web/path/to/.htpasswd
AuthGroupFile /dev/null
AuthName "yourdomain.com"
AuthType Basic
AuthPAM_Enabled off
<Limit GET POST>
require valid-user</Limit>
