Our servers don't seem to have ssh. I tried to get into Cobalt today but
apparently they are down.
What's involved with installing ssh? Does it void our warranty?
Thanks,
PG

try ftp://ftp.openssh.org -- you'll have to compile it for your
system, but this also gets around any RSA licensing (that or
wait till September when their patents expire in the US).
Installing software does not necessarily void your warranty,
just software you install yourself is not supported by Cobalt
and if you mess something up -- you get to fix it. Doesn't
matter if the problem came from a software install or you
twiddeld your thumbs the wrong way while logged in as root :).

Yes, ftp, not telnet. As one post mentioned a problem on the 32nd site - I
did add a site yesterday, but it was # 29, not 32. Close.
I agree w/the admin pwd going clear-text, but I don't have much of a
problem with that as I connect into the same ISP that houses my server so
my traffic is never really *on the net*. In general terms, yes that could
theoretically be a problem.
I have a siteadmin acct on each domain, but it is quite annoying to have to
logon/off for each site's work.
And it did work until the last day or so.
Thanks for past and continued help - I will look at the groups file to see
if I see anything odd.

Add another piece to the puzzle - with telnet, logged on as admin, I can
copy files to the directories that ftp is getting denied (550 error,
someone else asked, guessed correctly).
So telnet sessions can cp files to my /web/images directory but ftp with
the same logon cannot.
I looked in /etc/group - all appears to be okay, but I'm only guessing at
what I'm looking at. Any easy explanations of the items of interest would
be appreciated. Each site is listed as:
site28:x:139:admin,manager
type line. I assumed this means admin has siteadmin privilege.

Yes, it is 550, but as my other post mentioned, telnet as admin cp's files
just fine. Would this stuff explain ftp not working and telnet'ing in
working?
Thanks!!! All help appreciated (btw: I am searching archives to read about
what you had mentioned).
Did you just edit the group file and take admin off a bunch of the siteX
lines?

I have what Cobalt (last week) told me is the most recent - after the
reinstall, do a software upgrade install to the newest OS:
>From my software install screen:
Cobalt OS Release 5.0
RaQ3-en-OSUpdate Release 3.0
POP-Authenticated SMTP Relaying Release 1.2
Good luck.
