I did this sort of thing almost immediately upon getting a RaQ2 (many
months ago) and still haven't finished it off yet ! <g> I keep adding
bits & bobs & now have a large library of ver specific scripts to manage
the server (most of 'em aren't plugged into the UI). I'm thinking about
doing a complete rewrite <ooer>.
It's not impossible .. you just need to know how to configure
everything peoperly yourself. If you know, for instance, exactly what is
involved in manually setting up a new Apache virtual server, then you
will have a good idea how to script it. Put that script into a CGI et.
voila!
If you're not all that confident in how to properly configure
everything you want (apache, ftp, mail, users etc.) then don't even
think about writing your own UI.
You need to be sure of exactly how you want things to work and what you
want to do with it. You may also have the added problem of migrating
data from Cobalt's UI. It is not something to be entered into lightly,
but there are many situations where the Cobalt UI won't do & you have to
roll your own.
That said, there are a few web based UI projects out there which you
might want to check out. 'webmin' is the only one that springs to mind
but there are others (take a look on freshmeat).
Sorry, I'm rambling ;)
