Hello Cobalt Gurus --
Hope this question isn't so basic that
I get flamed by you genius guru folks...
Couldn't find anything in the support
archive about this, so here goes.
I want to password-protect some web
pages with the usual .htaccess mechanism
and think it would be convenient to
base the rules on the RaQ2's Linux's
/etc/passwd and /etc/group files.
My understanding (correct me if I'm
wrong) is that if you don't specify the
location of the user and group files in
the .htaccess file, it goes by default
to Linux's.
For example, I'd like to restrict access
to the pages in a certain directory to
users who are members of a group named
"sales". So I need to create this group.
Entries in /etc/passwd are easily created
using the Cobalt browser GUI, but I see
no mecahnism there for creating groups.
As far as I can tell, the way to
create entries in /etc/group is
simply with vi, which is easy, but I'm
concerned that the GUI may overwrite my
changes. What's the right way to create
entries in /etc/group?
Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom.
