[cobalt-developers] IP conflicts

We are experiencing a problem with our RAQ3i. The story goes like this:

We had a RAQ2 set to an IP address. The new RAQ3 was to take over the
duties of the RAQ2 and the RAQ2 was thus demoted to a mail server only. To
save a lot of messing around with DNS and awaiting updates we decided to
give the RAQ3 the previous IP address of the RAQ2 and change the IP address
on the RAQ2 to a previously unused one.

Now, when we try to access the RAQ3 we often get errors like 'the connection
with the server was reset' or, via telnet, I will connect and then lose the
connection a second later.

Also, when logging in via telnet or in the admin system on the RAQ3 IP
address, the RAQ2 will respond as if it still had the IP address that the
RAQ3 now has. I know this to be so because the passwords are different on
each machine and I see the IP address for the RAQ3 in the browser and the
details for the RAQ2 in the actual admin system. (including the IP address
in the network settings)

After a few minutes the problem clears and I am suddenly prompted for the
password again as the RAQ3 starts to respond and therefore does not accept
the password that the browser has for the session. Then a few hours later
it is all back to the start with the RAQ2 responding in place of the RAQ3.
It is all getting a little frustrating.

Does our RAQ2 still think it has its old IP address? Is there a remedy
besides a reboot which we have already done.

Thanks in advance for any advice or assistance.

Tony
PS. We'd like to avoid any IP address changes. Though, if we have to, the
RAQ2 can change.
