Mark - it is definitely tricky. I would say - almost impossible. What you should install is NOT what Gordon suggested. That just gives you java, not jserv. I can almost promise - you will NEVER get mod_jserv working yourself. I spent a ton of time trying. Cobalt and transvirtual did a really good job creating a developer version of apache/jserv called tomahawk, which you can install from ftp.cobaltnet.com in the developer area, with java/kaffe built in. It works fine just by installing the package. Then just keep your servlets in the predefined "examples" servlet area, and you're fine.
