[cobalt-developers] JServ on the Cube 2
I have been trying to get JServ up and running on my Cube for almost 2
weeks. I admit I am new to Linux/Apache, but this stuff makes COM
programming look like childs play. Here is a list of the books/resources I
have looked at to get this figured out:
Writing Apache Modules
Linux in a Nutshell
Running Linux
Professional Apache...
etc...etc...etc..
For this specific task... I would rate ALL of these resources as utterly
useless( but not utterly inexpensive).
Besides my inherent ignorance of the platform, these books assume a
directory structure not anything like my Cube and often not anything like
each other. Further, the configure examples for adding a DSO (specifically
mod_jserv) to Apache are different in all of these, and sometimes are not
even valid( for instance one of these books has './configure
--activate-module=...' which produces a 'not valid option' message. Another
way produces an error that says that the Apache on my Cube does not support
DSOs, which is puzzling because httpd -l lists mod_so as being compiled in.
I tried apxs, but it isnt on my cube. Before I go to the trouble of
obtaining apxs, has anyone been successful with it, or is it just another
wild goose chase ( I am about one more days wasted work away from turning my
cube into a doggy chew toy and picking up a Linux distribution that has all
this stuff already built in)? Also, does anyone know of a definitive
resource for installing JServ on the Cube? The current crop of books out
there are cutting it.
It would have been really nice if JServ and java had been on the Cube to
start with - Cobalt?
Thanks to anyone with any info on this.
